Skye is situated off the north west coast of Scotland. To get onto the island you can either drive over the bridge from the mainland at Kyle of Lochalsh or catch the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Mallaig to Armadale.
Please note, if you are using SatNav from Fort William it will normally take you to Mallaig and the ferry. If you are wanting to come via the bridge please ignore and continue along A82 to Invergarry. If you are intending to catch the ferry please check before leaving Fort William that the ferry is running as it is approximately a 3 hour drive from Mallaig to the bridge.
Waternish Peninsula is situated in the north west corner of Skye. It will take approximately 1 1/2 hours to reach Waternish from either the Skye Bridge or the ferry terminal at Armadale.
Once across the Skye Bridge keep on A87 until you reach Sligachan. Turn left signposted Dunvegan A863. Drive for 21 miles. Take the right hand turn to A864 towards Portree (A850) for 1 mile (this road locally is known as the Dunvegan by-pass and is single track. Please give way to cars behind by pulling into the passing places). When you get to the “T” junction turn right signed Portree (A850) and drive for 2 miles until you see the sign for Waternish B886.
Turn left here and drive for approx. 4 miles passing breathtaking views across Loch Bay to the islands, until you come to a “T” junction. Turn right signposted Hallin, Geary & Trumpan. After about 1/2 mile you will see a road sign for Hallin.
¾ of a mile after the Hallin sign you will approach our track on the left hand side, distinguishable by the two white gateposts. A number 8 is painted on a stone at the base of the curved wall, with a pale green post box also displaying a number 8. Opposite our track on the right hand side you will see a house sign with number 21 on it (just for reference).
Turn left between the white gate posts and head down the track. You will see An Cala Beag on the left; it has a red roof. Continue until you can go no further and park between the apartment and the garage.
If you miss the top of the track & get to the turn off for Geary you have gone 100 yards too far.
